About

Our Mission
In 1964, a group of Missouri amateur astronomers from central Missouri organized "The Central Missouri Amateur Astronmers, Inc." - a not-for-profit entity.
Today, the non-profit entity does business under the name "Central Missouri Astronomical Association" (CMAA).
The mission, however, remains the same:
- to promote the science of astronomy;
- to encourage and coordinate activities of amateur astronomers;
- to foster observational and computational work and craftmanship in the field of astronomy; and

- to correlate amateur activities with professional work.
CMAA serves these purposes in a variety of ways including reaching out to the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts via the CMAA Observatory at the Boone County Nature School; by holding weekly "open houses" on Wednesday evenings at Mizzou's Laws Observatory (weather permitting); and by hosting Star Parties at various venues around Mid-Missouri!!

Come join us under the stars (moons, planets, nebulae and other worldy objects)!!!
We foster interest in astronomy, share knowledge, and provide community events for enthusiasts at all levels. Our mission is to promote appreciation for the nighttime sky through various activities, resources, and shared experiences.
